Events in Corpus Christi

For more than 22 years, LULAC Council #1 has hosted the annual Toy Bowl here in Corpus Christi, bringing first responders together every November and December to support children, families, and nonprofit partners during the holiday season. The late Judge Bobby Balderas championed this tradition, and today we carry it forward in his honor through scholarship support, Christmas toy drives, and a commitment to the young people of the Coastal Bend.

This year, we are proud to stand in that same spirit by reviving another treasured LULAC tradition: the Menudo Bowl. After nearly 30 years, this historic event is returning not as a cooking contest, but as a year-round athletic series dedicated to uplifting nonprofit organizations and strengthening community partnerships across South Texas. Just like the Toy Bowl, the Menudo Bowl is about unity, service, and giving back through friendly competition.

Both events: one during the holidays, one throughout the year, carry the same heartbeat: LULAC Council #1 serving the community we love. Through tradition and teamwork, through service and scholarship, we honor those who built these events before us and ensure the next generation inherits a stronger, more united Corpus Christi.
